Katie Lunden, LMHC

Hello and welcome. I’m Katie Lunden, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with a private practice near Seattle in Bellevue, Washington. I’ve been a therapist since 2005, though I’ve been a “helper” and curious about people my whole life. After graduating with a MA in Marriage and Family Counseling in 2005, I delved into helping people in recovery from opiate addiction. I then spent ten years working in a community mental health setting helping people with a wide variety of presenting problems.

While I am well-rounded in my ability to help people with a range of problems, I’m most passionate about helping people on their journey to heal unresolved trauma, whether childhood trauma that continues to impact one’s life in adulthood, unexpected life changes, or the rawness that inevitably comes up with grief and loss.

Psychotherapy Services

I offer individual therapy to adults, primarily looking at challenges through an attachment (relational) lens and family systems lens as the more I have observed about my work with clients over the years, the more I’ve noticed an underlying theme that at its most basic level is the yearning for connection, belonging, and intimacy with others.

It is incredibly rewarding to help people discover how to create and sustain authentic healthy connections they are seeking, both the relationship you have with your inner self as well as in relationship with others. I love to accompany people on their journey of personal growth with the hope that in the process they can have the kind of healthy, enjoyable, meaningful relationships they treasure most.

Approach to Therapy

Finding a good fit with a therapist is essential to great therapy. Research shows (and I also firmly believe) the therapeutic relationship is one of the most powerful factors for successful outcomes in therapy. With that said, I tend to utilize a combination of the following frameworks in our work together:

  • Family systems
  • Attachment theory
  • Existential (focuses on concepts that are universally applicable to human existence including death, freedom, responsibility, and the meaning of life)
  • Narrative
  • Humanistic and person centered
  • Motivational interviewing
  • CBT

Education and Credentials

  • BA in Psychology
  • MA in Marriage and Family Counseling, Adler University
